Friday, May 30, – Pride Around the Town & City Flag Raising
Pride Weekend kicks off with Pride Around the City, a powerful display of LGBTQ+ visibility and unity as we unfurl the largest Pride flag in Philadelphia’s history! This year, the flag has grown to an incredible feet long, and we’ll carry it through iconic locations across the town starting at the Art Museum and Ending in the Gayborhood!
Help us keep the foot Pride flag through different parts of the city!
Saturday, May 31, – Pride Promenade at the Art Museum
Celebrate in style at the Pride Promenade, a spectacular gathering at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Enjoy a night of music, performances, and community connections at
LGBTQ Pride Month is celebrated every June around the country. June was officially designated as Identity Month in , though celebration marches and the month unofficially began in as a way to honor the Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan – a key protest by members of the gay community over a police raid at Stonewall Inn, a bar in Greenwich Village.
Now, this time is used to notice the impact of lesbian, lgbtq+, bisexual, transgender and queer society members and celebrate their contributions.
While Pride Month officially begins on June 1 – there are events as early as Thursday, May 29, in the metropolis. And, this upcoming weekend has a lot of events to kick things off.

Wednesday, May 28 Sunday, June James Baldwin’s Giovanni’s Room
Join the Quintessence Theatre Team for a theatrical adaptation of the novel “Giovanni’s Room” at multiple timeslots throughout the month. The play follows an American man who travels to Paris with his girlfriend and falls in love with a local man. Ticket prices vary.
Thursday, May 29 On the heels of a historic anniversary in Pennsylvania LGBTQ+ history — 50 years since Governor Milton Shapp signed the executive order protecting LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians from discrimination — the Philly Identity festival March & Festival kicks off its Pride Month festivities with activism, expose and inclusive celebration, and a ton of “Philly L.U.V.” — Photo by S. Kicking off at a.m. near 6th & Walnut streets, this community march begins with speeches, music and a land acknowledgement from the Lenape Tribe, before winding from Old City to the Pride Festival-grounds.
