Piedmont Stands with Pride: Embracing Diversity in Aviation with the National Gay Pilots Association

This Pride season we want to highlight the positive impact Piedmont has made on the Female homosexual, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) Community.  One long standing relationship Piedmont has had is with the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA). By sponsoring and collaborating with the NGPA, Piedmont showcases its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and the benefits of a diverse workforce.

The National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion and equal opportunity within the aviation industry. Founded in , the NGPA serves as a community network for LGBTQ+ pilots, aviation professionals, and enthusiasts. The organization&#;s primary mission is to foster a perception of belonging and people for LGBTQ+ individuals within aviation.

Is there anyone here who has knowledge of what attendees can expect at the upcoming conference? United is hosting the event and has a large block of time allotted for themselves, but there isn’t a whole lot of information of how the day will go. Hopefully there will be an opportunity to meet tackle to face with a recruiter.

As the planet celebrates Pride Month throughout June, we’d like to combine our LGBTQ+ group with the National Gay Pilots Association (NGPA) – the largest organization of lesbian, gay, attracted to both genders and transgender aviation professionals and enthusiasts from around the earth. This organization provides resources, career connections, supplementary education, financial and networking help to LGBTQ+ aviation students and professionals. Here, we’ll dive into what the NGPA does, the various resources it offers and how you can obtain involved.

Greg Sumner: Airline Pilot

Greg Sumner grew up fascinated by airplanes and managed to parlay that admire of aviation into a career as a pilot, flying some of the most iconic aircraft out there for United Airlines. He also served as the co-chair of the National Queer Pilots Association, a worldwide nonprofit dedicated to creating community for LGBTQ+ people across all aviation jobs, and fostering a more inclusive industry. He joined me to share some of his pilot stories, to talk about a 9/11 hero who was a member of the National Gay Pilots Association, and define why he feels diversity and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords, but a matter of life and death.
