Limanakia

To get there, seize a car, or even better, a boat. You can also take the bus from Athens in the guide of Vari and get off at bus stop ‘B Limanakia,’ the second stop after Vouliagmeni, the posh suburb where the old-money Athenians live. If you just tell, ‘Limanakia,’ everybody knows where it is: where the Attica Mountains lunge toward the Saronic Gulf. But it’s unofficially supergay, and you know you’re there because the cruising starts just off the thoroughfare, in the parking lot. Look for the small cantine, like a minute hut, where a guy sells tiropitta spanakopita, bottled rain and café freddo (unless he’s disappeared down one of the paths with a basket of ham and cheese sandwiches).

Put on some good shoes before you head down. No Gucci espadrilles—those won’t cut it. It’s quite a hike, and you have to be in pretty excellent shape to persist the steep descent. This trip’s not recommended for the elderly, but because it’s been this

The gay mecca continues to be the island of Mykonos, while the scene in the capital city remains rather low-key. Before moving on to Mykonos (or Lesbos, in the ladies' case), these are the gay places to check out in Athens:

Gay Beach

Limanakia B is the queer sunbathing and swimming area in Athens (it’s surrounded by rocks, not sand). To get there, seize the tram to Glyfada, followed by bus E22 to Limanakia (the third stop). When you step off the bus, descend towards the water and choose the perfect rock to sit on. Nudity is common, and don't be surprised to notice "private" encounters between men in the caves.
