OGALLA Annual Dinner Oct. 16
The Oregon LGBT Bar Association is proud to host its annual dinner and silent auction on Oct. 16 at Portland’s Hotel Monaco, featuring catering by Red Star Tavern & Roast House. The dinner, which begins at 6 p.m., includes a silent auction benefiting the Bill & Ann Shepherd Scholarship.

The event also features a nationally recognized speaker operational on the front lines of the effort for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality: Brad Sears, executive director of the Williams Institute and lecturer on disability and sexual orientation law at the UCLA School of Statute. The work of Sears and the Williams Institute featured prominently in Perry v. Schwarzenegger, the currently pending case to overturn California’s Proposition 8. Additionally, the institute is functional on the cutting edge of demographic research on HIV/AIDS, LGBT poverty and discrimination. At the event, OGALLA will also honor longtime community advocate and supporter, Mark M. Williams.

When last in Detroit, a very good 10 years ago, I inquired about, but, carless, did not endeavor to visit, aged stamping grounds. My contacts made it clear they wouldn't NOW risk their lives to be in the areas we used to frequent after shadowy, THEN.
Also 'way assist when, just off Wayne State U campus was the "Gay Nineties", ostensibly just another benign college bar. Yeah, right--and throughout the week, mostly unbent, but mostly otherwise on weekends, conclude with occasiosnal kingly show IIRC.
But if you know the "W", every bit as popular and friendly as any then available, and perhaps 5 minutes' drive distant, was "The Diplomat." Likely
my Detroit area friends would have the same comment about the inner capital, but I speak of the Dip for old times' sake. And since I'm only 17 now
